Scottish Equitation by Blue-eyed-Kelpie Scottish Equitation by Blue-eyed-Kelpie
Well it's a clydesdale infront of a castle, what more could you want? well personally I would have preferred a shot of a highland pony infront of the castle, but the fact that i had some university exams to resit prevented me from being there the day they were judging the highlands :(

taken at Blair Castle horse trials, Perthshire, Scotland

thanks :D they're not my all time favourite breed of horse (I prefer hairy wee ponies like highlands or dales) but I do appreciate the heavy horses too, they always look so damn impressive!

i'm still in two minds whether i like them as a breed or not, they are very impressive, but i don't know if i'd want to own one, their conformation is just so odd compared to other breeds! they have these great big legs, and are quite narrow across the chest, and i dunno just look kinda odd. i want a percheron :aww:

I know what you mean, they do have odd shaped bodies... something I noticed recently actually. Some are a bit lanky looking. Maybe there's a tendency to want to breed out the bulkiness while still retaining the size/height? Percherons are beautiful. Even those though, they're starting to produce leaner and leaner ones esp in th US... some just look wrong. I prefer the originals!

i was just having this conversation with my mum the other day lol! and we decided that yes, as more clydedales are being used for riding nowadays they do seem to be breeding them to be tall and long legged, but not so heavy. the best percherons i've seen were the ones being ridden at a stud in france we visited when i was a kid, i've wanted one since then! and my mum's thinking about buying a yearling filly to bring on and possibly breed from, so i suggested a percheron, and she was all for the idea, until she came to the sensible decision that it actually wouldn't fit in our stables, and seeing as mum is only about 5ft 2" it's also maybe just a little to big for her lol :giggle:
